Re: {Chrysler 300} Throttle Linkage on my K is broken, I think......

Hi
We made a new hinge arrangement to fix this long ago, a very common mopar problem, although I do not know K fit specifically,(it was done for F /G up),--- I believe floor pans are the same, going on to much later years(comments welcome if you know)  I believe this kit  is still on the forward look parts site(FLP)  .

Lately ,many inquiries about things like this have come back to us there, at FLP , even from Plymouth club etc etc by word of mouth type referrals, around our club, and beyond . Like the washer button kits for F,/G on and on .  I believe all of the FLP kits are on our club site as well as the FLP site .,it seems no one looks at 300 site first. Or some are not familiar with resources there that Bob Merritt has held together....and current .Same with many tech "how to fix it" articles there. Really good ones by 20-30 people who had solved a common lettercar problem  30 years ago ,(brakes! and more---)we need to get that info out, perhaps to newer club members, ---why I am making this longer than it ought to be (but maybe shorter than usual(laugh)
Maybe I need to work with Mr class act Merritt , or our printed pubs to list them all. Not just ours, (FLP),but all of them by anyone who helped, listed by the problem at hand. At the moment it just says "check it out "in our FLP ad. .

On this specific item, what happens is the rubber boot under the floor cracks or falls off, or gets torn off trying to fix this flopping gas pedal syndrome ; that causes every puddle to splash water into the two formed sheet metal grooves in/on the floor pan the pedal uses as a hinge point. One day the top or bottom rusts thru, The pedal will  not stay in the hinge .There have been creative fixes, metal straps etc I have encountered on some F I had.---but usually the floor rusts locally  too, in this area, nothing to screw it to , right at the pivot. So best to sandwich the floor ,do some RTV  rustproofing; the new parts are larger.
So fed up with half way fixes I made a set of machined parts of aluminum and a stainless steel plate  that make a new hinge pivot place , or tunnel. One part goes under the floor , one part on top held by stainless steel bolts thru (the original screws are almost always solid rust , break off etc) .It was more complicated than it looked as the pedal is angled, but hinge is not;that required 3D machining of the aluminum block to fully clear it, It went thru 3 design revs.

After all that we decided to share the pieces , made a few kits .
Liisa can advise current status if interested, but has to be ordered through the parts site, over logistics --look around!
Quirey may have the  rubber boot ,Gary did, but this will not rust anyway.

Hope this helps,John

Hi all!

The gas pedal on my K has dropped almost to the floor, which in my limited Accountant's brain, likely means that something happened with the throttle linkage. I've looked at it from every angle I can find, and it appears that it is generally in good shape with one exception. Looking at Page 14-24 of the '64 Chrysler Service Technical Manual, the left (engine side) of the accelerator shaft seems to be sitting loosely in its holder instead of solidly. Look just below and to the right of the circled #4 on that page. The firewall side of that holder seems to wrap around the shaft. Mine does not. It is wide open. When I manually open and close the carb, the shaft jumps out of that holder. Can you tell an accountant's writing this? I have no idea what that holder is called. 🙂 Has anyone seen this before? If so, how did you fix it? I'd love some feedback on this, if anyone's bored!

Thanks!
