Re: {Chrysler 300} 1964 300K- Original Transmission just went out today

I have had great luck recently with a shipper called Engines direct- website is www.engineshipping.com.  BUT  you need to call them and get a quote, the website quotation setup somehow runs the price way up, but if you talk to Dan or Steve in their shipping department ( i think its Option #2 on the phone when you call for shipping) , they are awesome!

They shipped a 182 lb transmission from NC to NM ( literally across the country) for me and it was 300 bucks with a liftgate service at the pickup side. Best part is they dispatched a driver to pick it up like the same day, no waiting a week or so, and I had it in 4 days! Their address and numbers are below:

ENGINES DIRECT FREIGHT, LLC

21616 N CENTRAL AVENUE

BUILDING 9

PHOENIX, ARIZONA 85024

P. 800.998.2100

F.
623.581.9400

I recommend them highly. Just to be sure, I also had an engine and transmission combo shipped from Phoenix to here with them ( 862 lbs!) and it came overnight, and that was about $425. Much shorter run of course but heavy and large pallet.

Only thing is it must be strapped down securely on a pallet, fluids all drained and wrapped up nicely like with a shrink wrap if greasy.  Also you need to know the total weight and pallet dimensions and if you need lift gate service at pickup and at the drop off spot, or can it be run over or picked up from a terminal ( saves like 100 bucks each service). Give them that info and a credit card and its on its way. They email you the bill of lading and shipping label that you give to the driver and all done!

Good luck!

Let us know how this works out. I am not all that well at the moment, and I may need to send mine out as I will not be able to do it myself like I had planned.

Although shipping it cross country will cost a fair bit.

Sending the Torqueflite off to Keith Long at 727 Specialist in Indiana.  He has a backlog of 8 weeks but can rebuild it right....Thanks for all the leads and advice!

Did you every change the filter? When the milage goes up they clog up. Pull the pan, clean it out, change the filter. Refill with new fluid and see if it moves.

Dark and not good….It’s the original transmission and it’s never been gone thru.  59,000 miles….For what its worth its leaked since I’ve had the car….It started shifting sluggish and was slow to build pressure from neutral to drive or reverse.  Also you would have to let off the throttle for it to shift.  I then drained a quart of the fluid and added some Lucas Trans-Fix Goo.  Basically died right after that

Is the fluid clear or dark? How does it smell?

Hello, Can someone advise if a later Big Block 727 Torqueflite will fit in a 64' 300K with the console mounted shifter?  I'd like to install a later single pump Torqueflite in the car.  Will the stock trans linkage work or does it require modification?  Is the later Torqueflite the same length or will I need the crossmember and driveshaft modified?  Anything else I would need to know before tackling?

I have no forward or reverse gears and the transmission was whining at all speeds prior.  RIP ole' girl....

Thanks!!!  James
