Am I misssing something here? Why use a clip mount or screw as a reference when doing a simple swap from one distributor to another? Note which plug wire stand the rotor is at on and which cylinder it’s feeding on the one you’re removing, install the new distributor and clock it where it fits best, then install the plug wires based on where the rotor on the new one is pointing.

Here are side by side pictures confirming my previous email.  You can see how the screw that holds the cap clip on the dual point is in the same position on both distributors, but it doesn't hold the cap clip on the single point.  The cap clip on the single point is attached to the distributor further below and also one post further left, making it appear to be 'offset' when compared to the dual point.

Use the screw as a reference and not the clip, and you'll be fine when swapping distributors.
