A cotter pin removal tool is an excellent tool for this task.

Just be sure the point is NOT SHARP but somewhat rounded off and smooth to avoid damage to the gasket.

And don't forget to tag and I.D. just which gasket this is, (front or rear) as well as from which car (in the case of parting out a car) so you will know when the time comes for its' re-installation or probable sale.

Been there, done that and now I don't know from which car they came from!!

Mike,

There is a lock strip in the rubber on the exterior. This will need to simply be popped out. Not torn off, just popped loose. If you look at the bottom corners of the gasket you may see a hole or divot, you can use a small Phillips screwdriver to start it going. The interior edge of the strip comes out, meaning the edge closer to the glass. If you want a picture I’ll take one and send it.

Quiery got all the extrusions . I just put one in a 60 convertable the other day . If your slow it will take an hour!!!!!!!!

I start by brushing it on heavily and keeping it in a plastic bag or bin. Keep treating it until it becomes soft and supple again. If you’ve already damaged your originals, I’d start looking for a parts car to get them from. And those of you who have parts cars and are removing glass, keep in mind there is/will be value in the gaskets not just the glass.
