I modified mine. I used a set of special washers and a long bolt. I also used a wire with a couple of round tip ands and jumped the splice. It has worked fine.
This mess does away with the factory unit so that this unit will last forever. A new rubber is also required.
If you search through the email file for my postings, you can see what I did.

The shaft is flat and slides into a collar on the steering box. I don't think you'll be able to see it without pulling the steering column out, even if you pull the rubber boot off the firewall. A bit of a PITA,
you'll need to reach down there and get the large cotter pin out. Then you'll see the thin copper shim folded over the rubber "coupling". When replacing the rubber coupling (better described as a flap), be sure to clean up or replace the copper piece as that's
how the steering column is grounded.

Hello All,

is it attached to gear box shaft, or will it be removed by pulling the

The alignment was completed, the backlash was adjusted by Steer & Gear box tech.
The steering wheel drifts a little right and left without affecting wheels
Straight ahead.
All suspension items a have been replaced.
How do I check the coupling with shaft in car.
