{Chrysler 300} Powerflite

I had my 300B towed home last Friday after a loud growling began, and seemed to be worse around 35-45mph. My initial thought was that it was a bad U-joint, as they have not been replaced. I have the rear axle on jack stands. The driveshaft seems to run true, but I discovered that in neutral the left rear is running at about 18mph. I assume that is not normal. There is a slight clanging noise from the rear U-joint or differential when I rotate the l/r wheel back and forth. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
