Just Little more info on the
Chrysler starter.
Their are two versions
The early 1960s 1.5 HP.
Then the 1970s 1.8 HP
Versions they interchange
The 1.8 is longer

Mark,

Chrysler was using (Ford) Autolite which gave them reliability problems (warranty & reputation costs), so Chrysler made the bold move to start making their own starters and alternators.  Nick is correct, the gear reduction starter has more torque than regular starters AND does so in a slightly smaller package. I would wonder if the Chrysler starter is lighter than the Autolite it replaced. In fact most if not all modern cars have gear reduction starters.

I love the sound the Chrysler gear reduction starters make!

Thanks,

Jim

The gear reduction starter has more torque to crank over higher compression engines.

Thanks Rick and Nick for the confirmation of this starter.

I am curious as to why the gear reduction style came to be.

Thanks,

Hello All,

I am trying to find out if this starter is correct for my 1963 Chrysler 300 – 413.

Mopar  # 2875553 and underneath #05102.  I found it among my parts, but this may not be correct.  If not, will the solenoid interchange?

Thank you,

Mark Lindahl
