Hi All,
Just a couple more days until our Spring meet in Asheville! I wanted to share some information related to hotel check in, a couple of schedule updates etc:
Wednesday 5/27
Check in for the hotel starts at 4pm, but you can always call and see if they will allow early check in. I'll be stationed in the lobby with a check in table, where you can pick up your meet packet from 2-5:30pm. After that, I will leave them with the front desk staff.
Parking:
We have the parking lot at the back of the hotel reserved for the Club. If you have a trailer, you will want to park it in the back, in the RV/Bus parking lane. This is also where the car wash station will be located. The hotel staff has assured me that they will have a hose and sprayer set up for our use back here.
Happy Hour
I understand that everyone's travel schedule will vary, but I am hosting a little happy hour at 5:30 in the Vanderbilt meeting room close to the front desk with some light snacks, if you would like to drop in and say hey. At 6:30, I will host a brief, 10 minute orientation in here just to speak about logistics for Biltmore etc.
The orientation is not required, but we wanted to show you some Asheville hospitality. I'll be hanging around the lobby or in the parking lot most of the evening to be available for any questions.
Thursday 5/28: Additional activity.
We have been given the rare opportunity to view All Souls Church located in Biltmore Village (George Vanderbilt's personal church) on Thursday afternoon at 4pm. This is another connection to Biltmore history. Because of the work that is going on, we will have to limit it to 30 people and ask that you bring a $10 donation. They also have a QR code to do this digitally on site. We will have a sign up sheet for this activity when you pick up your meet materials.
Friday 5/29
After the visit to the North Carolina Arboretum in the morning, we have two options for the afternoon:
1. Noel Hastalis and John Begian will be leading a group to the Combs Family Museum in Shelby, North Carolina (1.5 drive). This is a free activity and Phil Combs will be leading a tour through his family museum of incredible NASCAR history. See more here:
2. Visit downtown Asheville with Heath: St. Lawrence Basilica, an incredible historic church designed by Biltmore architect Richard Sharp Smith and Builder Raphael Guastavino has its interior closed for tours. We will still be able to view the outside of the church. I will take the group to another historic church, which has a beautiful fresco mural we will view and hear from their docents. Attached is a link to the documentary about this piece of art:
We will have sign-up sheets for these activities when you receive your meet packet in the lobby. There will be a limit of 25 for the tour of the fresco. There is no charge for this, but a donation is appreciated by the church. Suggested donation would be $10 per person.
Saturday 5/30
Saturday is our community car show! Many locals are very excited for this event. I will need a group of volunteers to help with logistics on the day of. Let me know when you pick up your materials if you would like to participate. We will discuss some of the logistics at the Friday night business meeting.
Sunday 5/31
For any of you who have a late flight or aren't leaving town right away, I will lead a guided tour of our local car museum (Estes-Winn Antique Car Museum) and the historic village it is situated in. If you are interested, we will have a sign up sheet at registration on Wednesday. There is no admission price to enter the museum, but they do have a $5 per person suggested donation.
Thank you and see you soon! Safe travels to you all and I look forward to welcoming you to Asheville!
