Re: {Chrysler 300} 300H steering wheel

Dennis lives near me and has done two 1960 wheels for me. He's a really private person so not a personal friend. His price would go up $100-200 a year. Haven't heard anything about any health issues, but not really connected with him. The wheel in my latest 1960 Chrysler wagon needs doing but I'd probably go another route on that one.

Does anyone know if the core is the same between 1960-61 wheels and the 62? I know the overall shape is the same but didn't know if the lower half was changed some they weren't doing the clear anymore.

A couple thoughts -

1) I’ve heard fairly recently that Dennis had some health issues. Also that his turnaround time was very lengthy.

2) His current going price, last I heard, was $2,800 to do one of our ‘60-‘62 steering wheels. That’s a far cry from the 2001 $1,000 invoice I have from when I purchased my F in 2005, from the previous owners who had the wheel restored in 2001. But 25 years and 90,000 miles later, my steering wheel is still looking great.

They removed all the original plastic, rechromed the rim, recast the two different plastics, polished, and returned it. Turned out beautiful. Other quotes I received were to cast the whole wheel in clear, then painted the gold section, and were less money. I didn't want to worry about the paint getting worn or chipping, so I went with Quality Restorations in California. We'll worth the extra money.
