Re: {Chrysler 300} fuel pump question/recommendation

I picked up one of these from the local Autozone:
After installation, I drove about 45 miles to a car event with no issues/leaks/smells.  I stayed for about 2 hours, as it was getting hot outside, and the following happened-
I left the show and drove about 2 miles to the entrance ramp of the highway I was taking home, and my car got up to about 50 mph and would go no faster, started to stumble if I tried to give it more gas pedal, as if it was fuel starved.  This lasted about 10 seconds, which felt like a lot longer, but then the situation cleared up and I drove home at about the 75 mph speed limit.  When I got off the highway onto secondary roads, the car stalled at the first stop sign I came to.  Car started right back up, then went the rest of the way with no issues.  I had never experienced anything like vapor lock or fuel starvation, etc. with the old pump, but it was dripping/leaking fuel, which is why I changed it.
The new pump bolted right on, had the correct fitting for my gas line, and both inlet and outlet were in the same positions as the one I took off the car, but I don't trust it at this point, and will be returning it for a different unit and hope that all is well after that.

Actually, Carter is discontinued this year. The $14 price was a warehouse clearance. Most stores are out of stock on this pump.

First Brands Group, LLC, will permanently close Carter Fuel Systems in Logansport on April 30, ending a business which has a history in the area dating back more than 115 years.

Yes, it looks like this pump is getting discontinued.  Search on the Rock Auto parts catalog for your car and a couple other brands show up as still in stock, bu t others out of stock.

Looks like all of these M3672 pumps are gone as I cannot locate it on the Rock Auto site .

Wow, I think it's rated 5.5 max psi, go figure.  Must be a quality control  issue on new Carter pumps?  I recently installed a new M3672 bought in 2024 on my G, no flooding or other issues so far, fingers crossed.  Best answer is rebuild an original, if have available, kits from Then & Now, but a lot more than $14.

The M3672 is the one I bought, putting out 8 PSI. Flooding my carb.

The new Carter pumps that look identical to original 59-63 pumps (M6903) put out way too much pressure even for a ram car.  Ram car doesn't need more than 3.5 to 5 psi maybe?  There was one on my G and it kept flooding the carbs.  I'm not the only one that has had that problem.  Use the '64 and up style on the Rock Auto closeout (M3672) and it should be fine.  Bargain price!

Hi John,

I just went through some fuel pump issues and found that all the RB motors, single and dual carb for 1964 had the very same fuel pump, 2495 528.
RockAuto has closeouts on a Carter made in Mexico pump for $14! Last of the line if you hadn't heard.

The new pumps puts out 8PSI.That should certainly feed two carbs if that is what you need!

I had to buy a regualtor to get the pressure down to an acceptaable level for my 3614S 360HP K.

-- I've noticed looking at online auto parts stores, that the recommended fuel pump is almost always the same for 61 Chrysler 300, 70 Chrysler 300 (with engine code T, U, or V) and is an unexpectedly low price of around $25.  I seem to remember way back when, that a different pump was listed for a car with 2-4bbl carbs or a U or V in the VIN of a 440 equipped engine?
Anyone else notice this, or find a way of looking up a fuel pump for an engine that may require more fuel than a lower performance version of a 413 or 440, or does it no longer exist (or matter)?
