Good point about E10. My comments about using gas analyser to set idle mixture was based on straight gas. Luckily in Brisbane, and in most of urban Australia we have a choice of three grades of straight gas plus one grade E10. I only use E10 in our new car as it was designed for it and it is the cheapest. Note that the factory spec for my 78 Val is 14.3:1 air/fuel ratio which actually is slightly rich - which was John Grady’s preference. I have found this to give a stable idle both hot and cold. However, it doesn’t snow here and we don’t have any mountains to climb. Set it up to suit your conditions but my advice is to use a tool like a gas analyser to know what you’ve got rather than guessing. My factory manual does give an alternative procedure using a tacho only. It says to tune for “best idle” at 900 rpm - then wind in mixture screws until speed drops to 750 rpm for the 6 cylinder (850 to 750 for V8). This tells me that “best idle” is actually too rich… Cheers Henry From: 'ALLAN POZDOL' via Chrysler 300 Club International <chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Just glancing at this long thread, but I have to share that when trying to diagnose my 3614S issues, I did not come across any reference in the Archives about the changes necessary for E10. My earlier search this spring about E10 and how to compensate for the moonshine in our gasoline brought about a good deal of information that has been out there for some time. I did a ton of online searching, finding numerous recommendations to increase the fuel load about 10%, advance the timing to 15 degrees to keep the flame kernel alive past 10 degrees, and adjust the float level. I would not bet that using the the original tune up specs would yield the best results for today's fuel. Do the ram cars also have the three step metering rods and .089 main jets?
