I have some decals for my engine bay and I have a few questions about them. I have a sticker that goes on the power steering pump, it's red and yellow. Where does it go, on the neck or on the body, and what orientation is it? Read from the front of the car or the side? I also have a sticker for the oil filter, it's also red and yellow. It obviously goes on the filter, but what color should the body of the filter be? The NOS oil filter that came with the car is black with yellow graphics. What about the fuel filter? What color should it be and what color is the decal for it? The "NOS" filter is black with yellow graphics, but the sticker listed in Osborne's catalog is red and yellow. What is correct for the fuel filter? Thanks for the help, Mark Souders 300H Mohrsville, PA [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 2 Date: Fri, 16 Jan 2004 18:33:38 -0800 From: "Chris and TJ" <flip7@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Engine Smoking, any suggestions? You can try Marvel Mystery Oil or if you're really cheap like me automatic transmission fluid sometimes works. Hi Hal, First is whether the engine has a lot of miles and the rings are worn out, or did it sit for a long time and the rings are just stuck. If the rings are worn out there's not to much you can do. If the rings are just stuck there are a few additives that you might try. Right now I can't think of any brand names but there out there. When I worked as a mechanic for Chev. people would trade in cars that had your problem. We carried a additive in the parts dept. that we used to desolve carbon. We would warm the engine up to operating temp. Then while working the throttle we would poor it down the carb. very slowly. It would smoke like crazy out the exhaust. When we had about 1/2 can left you then pulled the throttle wide open and at the same time you dumped the rest of the can down the carb.. flooding the cylinders and killing the engine. Then we let it sit over night. or even two days. Then start the engine and take it out for a hard drive. Most of the time it would work. Go to a parts house and either ask for help or read the labels for something that helps desolve carbon. I know there used to be a lot of people who would use ATF oil, but I don't think it worked as well. Worth a try. Before looking at what it really was I thought this must be a future Chrysler 300 with that grill. Then I looked at what the car really was. A Kia Amanti. I wonder if the designer of that grill would come over to Daimler for awhile Gary Barker ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 5 Date: Sat, 17 Jan 2004 00:32:18 EST From: jlsavard@xxxxxxx Subject: Re: (no subject) In a message dated 1/16/2004 11:09:13 PM Eastern Standard Time, MJMLandDev@xxxxxxx writes: Does anyone know a good source for cad plating? I would ask a local machine shop who they send their parts to. Plating is kind of a specialized process. Try to find someone that does plating for government (DOD) contracts. They are more likely to keep their tanks clean and properly maintained. I don't know what you want plated, but if it is a part that is put under strain, ask them about heat treating after plating. Cad Plating leaves parts subject to "Hydrogen Embrittlement", and requires a period in an oven to outgas entrapped hydrogen so they are not so likely to break under strain.
