If you have been considering a purchase, this would be a good time == once these are gone, it could be a while (maybe never?) before the club places another order. These carpets are advertised in the Club Store and can be ordered from the club office in Jonesville. Each carpet set is 72" x 179" from which you or your upholstery shop can cut pieces. If you need more information, contact the club office. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 2 Date: Tue, 26 Feb 2002 10:01:29 -0800 (PST) From: Bruce Paul <b_paul_ncp@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Hard Starting Wedge! Hi, I don't believe that you mentioned how old or how many miles are on your fuel pump. My theories on no gas in the carb trace to the fuel pump. The internal check valve is not preventing the fuel line from draining back into the tank, or the diaphragm is weak and can't pump the fuel back up quick enough, or your cam or push rod has worn so that the fuel pump doesn't get full strokes. A new replacement pump would solve some of these problems, and an electric pump would probably solve it completely. Have you tried backing the car up the driveway so that the engine is facing down? This way the gas can't drain back into the tank, if that is really the problem. If your cold starting problem disappears, you can either keep backing it in or replace the fuel pump. On a different "position" related issue, I have found that if I back my car into the garage, change the oil and oil filter, and then let the car roll onto the driveway so the engine faces down, I get practically instant oil pressure at start-up, much faster than if the car is level or on an upgrade. Our ad for these appears in the Club News and NewsFlite at a fixed price. Because we have an abundance of these to keep our and your FL cars running, we have decided to try selling extra inventory on eBay. These elements in their filter assemblies are original equipment in pairs on your C300, 300B and 300C. I'm posting this message not to advertise the auction but to give you the opportunity to view the two pictures there of the ceramic element with gasket and the filter assembly. The URL of that auction is http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=18085753 00 Remember, if you need one or more of these for your car, your best deal is to buy direct from our club ads, rather than bid for one on eBay. I remember somewhere, (and the brain can not dredge up the source at this time) that some cars were shipped to the dealer with the mirrors and antennas in the trunk and were then dealer installed. Now the holes might have already been there, That I do not know. I do strongly remember when my mother (who was working in the regional district offices of Buick at that time, 1957) had to make a special trip to the dealer when they were about ready to deliver her a brand new black on black Roadmaster convertible so that she could chose the outside mirror and the antenna locations. The memory is strong because I remember the grousing and grumbling she did on the return trip home because she thought that trip was to take her first NEW car home and was all geared up to bask in the glory of that beautiful car and was then told she would have to wait another day while they installed the items and finished up with all the dealer prep. -- Paul Holmgren Hoosier Corps #33, L-6 2 57 300-C's in Indy ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 5 Date: Tue, 26 Feb 2002 13:31:38 -0500 (EST) From: Paul Martin <paul_martin78ca@xxxxxxxx> Subject: 300F Movie Hi. In December I opened a discussion about the 18 minute movie about the 300F introduced at the New Yotk Auto show in 1960. Following a tip from a club member I ordered a two hour video from www.carsandstripes.com The video arrived yesterday and it is fantastic. the 300F part is near the end and covers great footage of a red 300F at the Chelsea proving grounds, a drive to Florida in a white 300F and discussion from Bob Roger. Its all in color too! A great purchase for $21.95. New conversion van we got a year ago got driven hone(100 miles) with antifreeze 1 gal low. Found it next morning when checking things over. Not to happy! Conversion co forgot to add extra for the added rear heater/ac unit. Did get freon in though at least. ----- Original Message ----- From: "paulholm" <paulholm@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: " Robert L. If one is considering doing a good job, and wants a correct carpet with all edging and serging done as per factory, I would recommend having the carpeting shipped directly to Gary Goers! Gary will transform the chunk into something "ready to install" , including those complicated console pieces, which he will return to you with the grey material sewn in ( the stuff that fits under the console stainless trips) and the proper serging done. Proper grommets and snaps at front of console as well. He will also make your door panels and seat back inserts with the same carpeting. All this for a very reasonable fee. It makes installation a snap. I would assume that anyone purchasing the correct carpeting for their 300F would also like it to look right when installed in the car ! Johnson" <laurence_g_johnson@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Hard Starting Wedge! Jennifer, Does the car start then die right after starting or does it just not start until the fuel pump refills the carb(s)? Makes a difference on the root identification of the problem. If the engines fires then dies, the carb has fuel retained in it between uses, the pump is slow to refil the carb on restart. That could be a bad pump or a pinhole in the fuel line or rubber connectors or a blockage. The pump should be able to raise fuel several feet, a little driveway tilt should make no difference. If the carb(s) are empty on restart, that indicates a different family of causes because there is a problem inside the carb. The floats don't change all by themselves, float arms must be manually bent to change the fuel level in the carb. A loose needle/seat assembly will lower the fuel level and cause a no fuel no start. This will also make the carb abnormally position sensitive to its being tilted. Larry Johnson - Jennifer Allyn wrote: >Suggestions are welcomed: > >Only when cold is our '62 413 difficult to fire.
