if you deal with comp cams, check out the cam very carefully. i
have a very good friend that hd a comp cam that picked up the ajacent
valves [lobes were out of proper location] and bent 5 intakes, i was
there and saw it picking up the extra valves [lifters]. comp did ZERO!!!
blamed the owner, confiscated the cam and that was it. ILL NEVER USE A
COMP CAMS ANYTHING AGAIN, you, of course should do as yo see fit,, just
a word of warning....

Jeff, I have also heard stories about Comp cams and have heard that they
can
go flat very quickly.(In small block Chevys) However, a friend of mine has
worked at a speed shop for many years and talked me into using one in my
current project. He's a Mopar fanatic and has several sweet muscle cars
which he runs a variety of different cams in. He claims to have had very
few
complaints from customers (never from a mopar) and when there have been
problems they have had no trouble 'making it right'.
His selling point to me was the amount of R&D that goes into the cams. I
have always run MP Purple Shaft cams and ISKY but the specs (according to
these sales guys)hasn't changed over the years with the MP cams. With all
of
the improvements that have allowed gains in performance, drivablility, and
fuel economy over the last ten years I wanted a cam that could give me
those
benefits. 'Comp' is apparently one of the leaders as far as R&D goes so I
thought I'd try one and judge for myself.
I'm sure many people have been soured by bad experiences with products and
companies but often it is who you are dealing with that makes the
difference. If I were you Jeff, I'd get your friend to persue the problem
with someone else at Comp Cams. Perhaps a local rep? This is the type of
bad
publicity that most companies endevour to avoid and you would be amazed at
the results of dealing with someone within a company that cares about
their
reputation.

For all the members that are trying to figure out what cam to use don't
forget Huges Cams. They have a great web sight ( hughesengines.com).
They only grind Mopar cams. I highly recommend you go to there web sight
It is very informative. They will grind you a cam just for your engine
after you answer 16 of there questions about your car and your

I dittoed that info to the original questioner as well as
dropping him the link to the Hughes web site.
I hope that he visits there, reads the info, and then CALLS
and speaks directly with them. They are highly recommended
on several other mopar lists.

Folks:
What about Crower? In the late 60's and early 70's Crowers were very
strong
in the Wedge ranks - in fact many of the Mopar class winners on Long
Island's National Speedway and NJ's Englishtown's Raceway Park ran Crowers
(Crane was also in there, joined by Isky and their 1012B Wedge Cam - hanks
to Chrysler's official endorsement). Also, I had a very original 66
Plymouth Satellite Street Hemi 4 speed in the early '90's and Bruce Crower
personally spent at least a half hour on the phone w/ me concerning
driving
patterns, gearing, performance goals, etc...."President of the Company"
service like that is hard to find, as you know - it paid off as I bought
the entire cam/spring/ valve train from him!
