Subject: Re: 331 Heads

There are several versions of 331 heads so you have to qualify what you want.
If your talking about a 1955 331 in a 300 and you want #s to match, your
approach has to be a little different than if your just rebuilding the top
end.  Differences between a 1955 and 1956 are cosmetically minor.  Rockers,
pushrods, etc will swap from a similar application.  There are, however, 331
truck and industrial heads that are much different and Pre - 55 331 heads
come in two major variations that won't work for a 300.  The big valve, oval
exhaust ports, with water crossovers at the front and rear are what you need.
Casting #s are on the Power Play website.

Subject: 300J  for sale

To all:

Bobby Walden, in Texas, has a red / red 300J for sale. VIN number 8433
136443. He has sent me pictures and it appears to me to be an easy
restoration - good body with minor dent in quarter, hardly any rust, needs
paint, etc.  Interior very nice still, has factory a/c,  currently has
single-four barrel but all short ram pieces are there and included in sale.
Car is complete, perhaps minus only hubcaps and wheels.   Also, the asking
price  is quite right - $3500.00 . There are extra parts ( mostly
stainless ) included. Car runs and yard drives.

Bob can be contacted at (806) 274-4026 or by e-mail at
waldenspeed@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Anyone wanting to take a peek at the pictures, just e-mail me and I will
forward them.

This car is a GREAT DEAL !!!

John

After unsuccessfully searching for original type clips and wanting to
go to the Mopar Nats just a few days away,  I ended up using plastic clips
readily available in any auto paint/body supply store.  They are actually  GM
door wiring harness retainer clips.  The aftermarket part number is #2286,
the oem part number is 20451401.

They slide right into the rocker molding and then just push into the
holes in the body.  Mine have been on the car since '92 or so w/no problems.

Hi Gang,
Speaking of 300 Sports, I ran into Jim McGowan of Rockford, Ill at a "Plastic
Car Meet" last week in Indy. Jim was the original owner of a '62 300 Sport
with the 380 Hp engine package and 3 speed on the floor "std" transmisson.
Back then, dealers took for granted that the Torqueflite was the standard
trans for a 300 Sport, especially with the optional 300-H engine package. Jim
says it took several weeks of working with his Chrysler dealer to get him to
turn in his New Car Order.

Today, Jim's in business rebuilding Quadrajet and AFB's & enjoys talking
about his White '62 300 Sport.  He can be called at 815-874-4884 or emailed
at:

I set up rear end I don't remember exactly what the manual calls for. I can

for that car.

Come on guys. Stop leak in an A/C system. Like the other post said it can
gum up things. Do it right, fix it right. You are going to bit the bullet
some day anyway. It may be worse if you put some foreign stuff in your
system. That's worse that putting stop leak in you radiator or tires.
On the A/C subject I now have completed the design conversion using a late
A/C seal in a early V-2 compressor, (up to early 61). It takes several
machining ops on the late seal and the early seal seat cover. The good
thing is now you can have a fresh late technology seal that will work with
R12 or 134A. Price $75 shipped within the US. I also have standard late
seal, (late 61 up until they stopped making the RV2. $25 shipped in US.
Also have main shaft bearings for both, (different sizes). If you are not
up to the rebuild then I do the complete unit. I have done them for other
club members.
If I can help drop me an A/C line. Pun intended.

Hmmm, now I look at a '60 manual and it says .013" to .018", the '57 manual
definitely says .003" to .008". Was told by a freind that 13 to 18 was too
much, but now I'm not so sure.

gary and all;
the a/c on my wifes 77 newport ''beater'' that will get no
repairs that arent necessary for safety or to keep it running a while
longer, isnt worth the effort of the under dash slow leak repair. it
will fix with stop leak or it will not work at all, it isnt worth the
effort. the same goes for my 66 n/y'er, ive gone as far as replacing the
compressors with sankyo 508's and with the exception of hoses, thats all
they are gonna get.  now, if the 300 k ram car were an a/c car, it would
get fixed properly, its a matter of priorities...

Hi,

Is it rocket science to make a set of brake lines for a ram K?  Is it
something the local brake shop can be trusted to do, or should I go to Inline

Having just worked on one, the 57's have no provision for a seal. The anchor
rests right on the crossmember, so there is no room. One side of the car I
had did have a foam seal one the bar. The other side was so rusty it had to
be pressed out of the anchor. The seals always go on the rear. Make sure the
bars are greased before installing in the lower arms and anchors. This
controls noise and rust.

Subject: Re: axel end play on 300C

Ok here it is. 57 Chrysler/Imperial service manual, #D15899. Section II
REAR AXLE, pg. 46 paragraph 16. SETTING AXLE SHAFT END PLAY. The first
paragraph talks about the various shims available and states "The correct
axle end play is .013 to .018 inch. One or more shims may be required to
obtain correct end play".

Next weekend is the annual car show at the Novi Expo Center in Novi, Michigan.  It's a suburb just northwest of Detroit.  I'll be there with my white '55 300 (not in the show but I'll be in the cruise on Sunday evening) and I'm pretty sure that Will Johnston will be there with his black C300 since he only lives a mile or so from the event.  Hope to see some other Mopars from the '50s and early '60s there.
