I ran into a problem today with a major parts vendor that I believe the club
should know about. I have a loose ball joint on the lower right front of my
H. I bought an NOS lower ball joint, part # 2298535, from Brad's NOS in NC.
I installed it last weekend and after the full installation found the ball
joint was defective. You can't tell if a ball joint is good or bad until
it's installed and under load. I called Brad's today and was told that since
it had been installed there would be no return or refund. I believe practice
like this should be told to the club so they can avoid this vendor.

I cannot answer your question from experience, however from what I have read they are interchangeable.
For the education of all, I hereby offer a very comprehensive site, complete with credit to Gary Lewallen and Doug Ahern at the "AUTO HOBBY DIGEST":
http://www.bigblockdart.com/axleinfo/8_75axle.htm
This is the most information I have found in one place on the 8 3/4 axles and "Sure Grip" differentials.
Good Luck, and 300ly

Swapped a '66 windsor 8 3/4 rear end and springs into a '65 300 (non-letter)
many years ago and it was exactly the same. I assume the rear in the 'L'
would be the same as a non-letter car.......at worst you may have to change
the carrier if the ratio is different.

Hi All,
I have a '56 Imperial that has wipers that will not "Park". Apparently
there is a switch(?) within the motor that no longer operates. Are these
motors readily available? If not, can used ones be bench-checked to see if
they operate in all modes? Thanks a lot for your help and input.

Windsor was a Canada-only nameplate in the mid-'60's, and included in the published Newport production figures. This is similar to Pontiac in the '60's using the Parisienne & Laurentian nameplates at the same time they sold only Catalinas and Bonnevilles in the US. I believe Ford did the same, but cannot think of the model names.
Canadian-derived names for the Great White North.

Personally, I liked the idea that the Canadians got distinctive nameplates and trim and am sorry the manufacturers stopped doing it. So here's to the Mercury Monarch and Montcalm, the Meteor, and all the other Canadian nameplates of yore.

Boys, Canada is full of Windsors....I believe they were available until the
early 70's here. They are the Canadian versions of the Newport but are
built in Windsor, Ontario. My Canadian built 1965 300 has different door
panels, different gutter trim, and the 383 was painted Red from the factory.
You learn something new every day don't you? :) Lol

Subject: Thinking of swapping brakessystems between my '67 and '62 Chrysler...
On my '67 Chrysler I've got a Budd-discbrake system, and I was thinking
of putting that on my '62 Wagon.
What would I have to swap from each car to be able to do the swap?
I guess I need to change over the lower control arms aswell right?
Anything more I might oversee?
2nd question, Anybody know much work/money it would take for a vendor to
make a run of '66-68 Chrysler discrotors? I know it's a long shot.
I really want to use the great stoppingpower from the '67 DB-system on
my '62. The wagon needs it bad.
As my 4-piston calipers have been rebuilt with stainless steel sleeves
in time, I really don't want to loose them just because I can't find any
rotors anymore for this system.
They are still usuable for now, but there comes a time when they need
replacing ofcourse...
Best regards,
Herman Meiners.

Hi Herman,
Here's a quick reply to your question : ain't gonna happen.
Your 62 NYker wagon is a Long Wheelbase car ( LWB ) ( same as mine ! )
There are many articles that concern disc brake conversions on my Web site
at
www.crossrams.com ; basically, you can either buy a conversion kit from
Magnumforce Racing or AAJ brakes, or make your own adapter bracket as per
Dan Reitz's article, or find a 70's Imperial and use that spindle and system
on your 62 NYker.
The 65 and up Chryslers use a completely different subframe / control arms /
spindles and there is no real way to modify these to fit your 60 thru 62
Chrysler

This is going to be the last try. This is a partial list of web sights
that have different programs helping decode vin numbers of various
brands of cars and other information.
You just need to browse around and try some of the links. There is
one for old Hemi engines.too.
The address is: www.chucksez.com/vin_decorder.html
I hope it works for you. Gary Barker
