Yep, Pete use rubbing alcohol. Also use clear ammonia not the cloudy
(sudsy ) kind. Les

For years I have always left at least one window of my autos open an inch
or so to help bleed of some of this stuff. Also works to help keep the
temperature lowered in the auto when parked in the hot sun thereby
preserving the interior.
I am still convinced however that Armor All is a real outgasser that
stains up interior car windows with the oily crud that it emits. Other
products such as Protestant 303 do not cause this problem in my older cars
such as my 300 or Corvette where most if not all of the outgassing from
the vinyl's, carpets and leathers has ended.

I own a 1964 Cadillac SDV with a near perfect dash and another parts car
with a destroyed dash. The good dash car is from south central Georgia
and
the parts car has lived here in AZ all it's life.
Most folks in our area use dash covers. This does some good but
generally
only ends up covering cracks.
We have had only one experience with one client with a severe allergy
condition to auto interior materials outgassing. She drove a stripped
commercial minivan with aluminum foil covering the dash, visors etc.
which
she said helped.

This vinyl gassing thing makes me think back when I bought a 911SC new in
78. I would park that car for 30min. in the sun and the windshield was all
hazed up. I quickly figured it was from the dash material. The Germans
must
have had some concoction of vinyl then. I never experienced that with any
other car before or after.
Then all this triggered another memory. In the late 80's I was seeking to
have a vinyl cushion ring molded around a small wheel that I used on a
drawer slid to quiet it in the metal track. When I started talking to the
injection moulders most would not mold vinyl as they said the gases were
so
corrosive and poisonous to there employees they would not mould it. I
found
one that would do it after paying more and a few months later he said it
was eating up his equipment and would not mould it any longer. Now the
moulding temperatures are 400+ degrees. That said maybe like Mark points
out this gas may be more of a hazmat than we think.
I called the GE Tech to get some feed back, but they had already gone for
the day. If I get more info I will report back.
That's good Dave, beans and fiber. You know you just don't know what they
might be feeding those thermal plastic pellets these days.
Gary, The Parts Doc
California would already have posted warning labels
>on all new car dashes by now. Imagine this, "Warning: the vinyl in this
>vehicle is known to the state of California to cause cancer in laboratory
>animals." Well I guess I'll have to keep those animals out of my car!

I am beginning to think that lower real quarter panels for our 57-59
letter cars are a figment of our imagination. As best I can determine,
NOBODY has yet received any in hand from these people and try as I might
as well as at least two other member have, they will not put phone calls
through to the responsible party at their end, nor will they return
phone calls.. What is going on at MetalCrafters??? How did the Club get
mixed-up with these characters??? Have they charged anyone's credit card
for these parts yet???
I would like to get pleasantly surprised by hearing that anyone has
received their parts and more pleasantly surprised by getting a return
phone call from anyone at MetalCrafters.
That's my 2 cents worth.
George
