The reference to cavitation triggered a memory (remember them....guess
not!). If the water pump has been changed, I've seen where either the
impeller wasn't the right size (rebuilt with wrong parts or wrong pump),
or
the timing chain cover was hogged out by a worn pump not changed soon
enough. In either case, there is too much room between the impeller and
chamber it works in, and the water cavitates at high RPM's.

Get those vacations planned around the 2003 meet dates: June 11-15, 2003.
Battle Creek, MI, and SEPT 3-7, 2003, in Dayton, OH. See ya there!!!

Subject: available parts

Happy and healthy New Year all around !

A couple interesting parts that are currently commercialy available:

1/ Axle button spacer kit for Sure-Grip units - this is the center
"button"
, that the axle ends ride up against. Just about every Sure-Grip that I
have
worked on, these buttons fall out of when removing the axles... causing a
big headache. A complete kit, consisting of both spacers and the roll pin
that attaches them together, is now available from Randy's Ring and Pinion
for $29.00 ; www.ringpinion.com

2/ Carburetor top - REALLY NEAT !!! what we're dealing with here is a
uniquely engineered and constructed early Carter AFB style carburetor top
that is designed to fit atop virtually any modern Carter AFB, or AVS carb,
and make that carb look like a legit 1960's piece. Also allows you to
mount
a factory air cleaner on top of a modern AFB, such as you would purchase
from Summit Racing. This is the complete top portion of the carburetor -
the part which has all the screws around its perimeter, and through which
the center stud goes that hold the air cleaner lid on... available from
Newcomb's Hemispherical Products (909) 929-9767

Also, http://www.imperialservices.net/ for all your motor mount and
transmission mount needs - in polyurethane !

300'ly
John

Wayne,
That's for the "Salt" we don't need up here in the Northeast, we've got
enough on the roads and cars already. We have 30-32 degrees, 100 humidity
(raining), no breeze, and socked in with clouds and fog. We are told to
expect snow and freezing rain tonight into tomorrow.
Happy New Year to all!!

Happy New Year everyone!
Does anyone in the club know anything about all these 300's that are up
for bids on ebay? Letter cars and non. convertibles and hardtops. Most
appear to be project cars, some borderline parts cars and some are stated
to
be parts cars. Anyone in the L A area know or can find out? It would be
interesting to know about who's cars they are/were, and how many etc. and
is/was he a member? Someone close might be able to get a project or parts
car/s for a reasonable price/s. Joe Pierce 300Kx2+M+ others.

I have been reading all of the interesting things you people write for
about a year now. One question that I have always wanted to ask but never
have is: Years ago (like 8 or 9) there was an auction in Kansas (North
central I think) that my wife and I went to. There were lots of 62 300
parts and car bodies and cars on the sale. There was a convertible on the
sale as well. Just curious if any of you were there. Cal and Sara 300
sport Happy, Healthy and Prosporous New Year to you all!

Anyone from the Los Angeles area going to the Phoenix meet?

I'm looking to transport a power seat track there for Moana & Gerry
Steinberg.

I'll be happy to deliver it to anyone driving out there.

Thanks,

Matt Allyn

Hi All,

Back when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area I knew a guy who
at
the time was running a body shop, but who had previously been a service
manager at one of the Chrysler dealers somewhere in rural ( if I recall
correctly ) California. Anyway, he said that one day a lady came in with
her 300C -- and she was mad as hops. "You guys just worked on my 300, and
now it won't get out of its tracks!!" He said she was waving a ticket for
120 mph from the California Highway Patrol to prove it. Apparently she
was
quite used to being able to outrun the CHP ( whose cars were no slouches
themselves ) with her "C".

"And this car was owned by a little old lady who seldom drove it
over 140 mph."

(-: Kids, DON'T try this. This was back in the '50s when cops had
a
sense of humor. They really get up tight about things like this now. :-)

I and my friend Bill Adams of Bountiful, Utah, attended that auction and
came home with a pickup load of parts, and towing a sport 300 hdt, for
our '62's. As I remember there were people, in attendance, from as far
away as New York State.

It was quite a large estate auction of mainly '62 chrysler 300's (some
30 plus cars) and parts. From my now foggy memory of the event and
those that I meet - cars/parts were being loaded for travel to Texas,
Illinois, Colo. Utah and many other states.

Question to the group! Who is out there restoring the steering wheels
for our 300's (in my case 3 -'62 deluxe steering wheels) or at least
restoring the clear plastic? What can I expect to pay? Any long term
problems with the results of their work (such as clarity, yellowing,
shrinkage, cracking)? What

I hope there is a reasonable priced service in lieu of having time to
make the molds, and clear cast them, myself.

A new McDonalds joint opened near me late last year. Among the wall
paintings, showing '50's cars at '50's McDonalds restaurants, was a rare
showing of a 1962 chrysler 300 convert. To see a mopar duplicated in the
thousands of auto art work done over the years is rare!! (always GM or
Ford products are used/painted).
