Regarding original owners I almost count (well sort of). My Grandfather,
Hardy M. Graham, bought the car brand new in May of 1955. He bought the car
in Union City, TN and has been an avid Mopar man since about 1940. My
Grandmother got a brand new Imperial every couple of years until the
discontinued them. The last Mopar she bought was a Front Drive New Yorker.
She didn't like front drive so she bought a 7 Series BMW. Granddad used his
cars on the farm and to travel around for business so he wanted performance.
My Dad tells a story of getting the C300 to 150 on the speedometer on a long
descending straightaway in west Tennessee one time. My Grandfather tells a
story about being Mayor and routinely getting the Police department to
verify the accuracy of his speedometer at 100 mph. He also said that he
replaced the tires when they were only half worn out. Not sure how true,
but he also says that he had them put a different cam in the car when it was
new to make even more power and changed the rear end for more speed. Like
me he has always been a horsepower junkie. He tells a great story about
working out on the farm late one day when one of his workers got injured
badly on a piece of farm equipment. He said he put the man in the car and
set out for a hospital running as fast as he could go. Most roads in rural
West Tennessee were dirt and in not very good condition. He was coming up
on a bridge crossing a stream and just kept his foot on the floor. He tells
of hitting the beginning of the bridge and launching the car in the air.
When it came down it hit so hard that it bottomed out and pulled the exhaust
system off at the manifolds. It was dark by then and blue flames shot out
from under the car he said. With a tire squealing unmuffled Hemi C300 I
have no doubt that the hospital knew he was approaching. After the car got
around 50,000 miles on it he bought another car and used the C300 to haul
corn on the farm. He would actually drive it down the rows of corn and
have people throw ears that the Combine missed into the trunk of the car.
In 1969 the drivers outside door handle broke so he parked it in his carport
and just left it there. All through my childhood when I would visit I would
climb over this beast of a car sitting in their carport. Even at an early
age I was amazed and fascinated by this car. In 1992 I convinced my Father
and Uncle to pay to have the car restored. My Grandfather passed title to
the both of them and they jointly restored the car. There was extensive
rust from sitting in the carport for 23 years. The restoration cost over
$50,000.00 but didn't matter because it was Granddaddy car. When the
restoration was complete and the car delivered back to Union City my
Grandfather was the first to drive it. My uncle was with him as he pushed
the car to 100 mph. He said that as he was looking at him to tell him to
slow down, he looked 40 years younger. Granddaddy's last Mopar was a 1987
Conquest TSi which I bought from him last year. It has 21,000 miles and
cost me the hefty sum of $700.00. The last new car he bought was in 1994
when he bought a Corvette ZR-1 at the age of 82. Grandmothers front drive
New Yorker was way to slow he said. Granddaddy is 90 years old now and the
family won't let him drive anymore. At the last club meet in Nashville I
brought his car and had it judged in the Concours event. I don't remember
the points it got off had but I was happy, especially since it took first in
class (I am not sure if anyone else was in the class). Anyway, I gave the
plaque to my Grandfather and it made him very happy. Although I am no the
original owner my name is on the original title. Sorry for the long story.
I am beginning to sound like my Grandfather.

here is the real thing retyped.

the 300 infection had taken control of the body. Realizing that the younger
members are handicapped by this process, nevertheless I forge ahead andaunted
due to the fact that you younger folks have heaps of advantages that
advancing fogedom precludes. Sometimes "old" has a slight advantage. When

Hi gang,
Nasty weather? It's freezing rain now and we are expecting 6 to 10 inches
of snow tonight in Reading, PA.
I may be one of the club's newest owners, as I purchased my H in August.
However, I remember seeing these huge cars since the time I was able to ride
in the back seat of Dad's Dodge wagon without being in a car bed. I
remember a guy in our town who had a 58 or 59 Letter car. He was our town
drunk and every so often it would be parked in front of the local body shop
with wrinkled sheetmetal. I don't know how, but he never seemed to get hurt
in his wrecks. When I came of age, I looked for one of these big fast cars
but ended up with a 62 New Yorker instead. That car planted the seed,
though, and now at age 48, I finally have one. I'm trying not to rush the
completion but I can hardly wait to fire this thing up and take it out for a
spin. I've restored other cars in my time, but this one is by far the most
rewarding and the most expensive one I've ever done. I still need a boat
load of parts for it, but it's coming along as expected.

Well, as an avid reader of Tom McCahill I caught the disease in
1961, but I couldn't talk my Dad into buying one for the family car, so I
had to wait until I had graduated from college and was making my own money
in 1967 to buy my 300G. Then when we were looking for the parts to put two
four barrels on the '60 New Yorker that we had just bought so it would be
exempt from the damn smog laws, I ask the speed shop owner if he knew of any
300G's that were for sale. He had a 300J and was trying to sell me his
because he intended to move to some place like Nebraska where they didn't
have high octane gas readily available, but I insisted that I wanted one
with the fins. So he called up a friend of his who did have a "G" for sale.
Over the phone, with me standing there beside him, he was trying to hint to
the guy that I was hot to own it and he should up the price a bit ( I was
tempted to hit him over the head with the dual quad log manifold we had just
bought from him! ), but fortunately the guy was honorable and sold it to me
for the $500 that he had originally wanted for it.
When my Dad drove the "G", he said that he wished he had listened to
me and bought one back in 1961. He said that the "G" was a car that no
matter how many cars I drove I would always remember for it's superb
handling properties. He said that he had never driven a car that handled so
well before - and he had owned two Hudsons, a '50 Commodore 6 and a for a
short time a '51 Hornet with the tripower manifold on it, because those were
the cars that were winning the races before the 300 took them away.

Hi Gang. There is a guy in California advertising 57 C. Quarter Panels. I
personally know this person, and you cannot trust him Those Quarter Panels
are mine from a 58 New Yorker Coupe. He was to use them on my 57 C when he
replaced the other rusted panels on my car. After I moved to Indiana I
discovered that he just patched the same ones that are on the car. Buyer

Working on my '62 300's 413.
I acquired a new oil slinger, as the last one was trashed.
The new one I have has a wider cut out for the keyway on the crankshaft.
Is the oil slinger keyway supposed to fit snug, or can it be wider than
the key?

Subject: Timing Cover Seal
Believe it or not, I have put these 413's together before!
On the timing cover seal (not the flat gasket), I have 2 questions:
1. Any good suggestions on how to install it without the secret
Mopar tool?
2. It does go on with the open side (where you can see the spring)
facing the motor, right? In other words, with the "closed" side facing
outward?
I know I should know this, but I always forget.
