Subject: Windshield interchange

Good morning.
I've found 2 1960 bubble-type windshields on 4-door Chrys/Dodge hdtps in a
local junkyard. What years will they interchange? Will a '60 fit a '57?
A year ago when this was a hot topic, I filed the answers under "never
need to know". Sorry for the rehash.
One more--
Power door locks: when did they appear in Mopar products?

Many thanks.
Mike V

Here we go courtesy of a post Mr. John Hertog made on 6/28/2000:

 Hi Jeff,

It's nice to be getting back to tech e-mails.

You're quite right that there are two different shape windshields. They
are
usually referred to as 'straight' , and 'bubble' .

The W590 is the "bubble" windshield . It was used in ALL 1960
Chryslers.
Then, it was used in ALL 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964 Chrysler CONVERTIBLES
,
only.

The W604 is the "straight" windshield. It was used in all hardtops
starting
in 1961.

For the purposes of this discussion, I will only talk about Chryslers,
even
though it's pretty much the same thing for identical bodied Plymouth,
Dodges
and DeSotos.

Both windshields WILL interchange. BUT, a little known fact which I
have
picked up on is that the gaskets are different, from one model to
another.
The straight windshield uses gasket # 2166675 . The bubble windshield
uses
gasket # 1882146
(check out parts books under 23-66-0 ) . It is my opinion that
different
gaskets were used because of the different angle at which the
windshields
come in at the top.

Hope this helps

John

Hi Mike -

All 57 HT windshields were NAGS 451, while convertible was 453. In 58, all
HT windshields were 453 as well, except for Plymouth, which was still 451.
In 59, Plymouth joined its older brothers with the 453 for HTs. All
convertibles, 57-9, were 453. In 1960, everything changed. So it wouldn't
be
compatible. None of the above applies to Imperial, which is a different
animal.

Hi Wayne,

Yes, we still do ignition coils back to 1956 for Chryslers.

Thanks,

Could one of you guys or gals please explain why, on eBay, when a Chrysler
300M is listed for sale they also have in the description 300E?
I did email one of the sellers but I guess that he did not want to be
bothered.
Is the answer a simple one?

Thank you in advance for your answer.

I have produced a special run of leather washers and plastic bushings to
fit
the window regulators for '57 - '64 cars. If you have your windows apart,
it
might make sense to replace the old parts with new. I have more specifics
at
http://www.simplexco.com/auto/washbush/wabuhome.html .

Subject: 57 fuse

I happened to be working on those 57 dome lights and was surprised to find
that fuses on the 57 are few and far between. There is a quick way to add
a
fuse to the dome light circuit -- you can see the fuse addition at :

Subject: Console '60-'62 300F, G, H - sale

Hello all. Me again with more "offer Club-first" junk mail.
I've an almost-complete (no tach guts) lettercar full-length console that
won't be needed anytime soon.
The front & rear fiberglass looks to be in fine shape. The corrugated
center piece (2 sets) are both just used, driver-quality. The rails /
moulding are driver-quality also, but I do have a beautiful repro set
available (thanks Mr Burke). The front & rear switches are complete and
appear also in good shape. The rear ashtray is there, as is the front
which has been modified somewhat in a previous-life repair attempt. The
tach case/trim/glass is present, but no tach mechanism. The armrests are
lighter-colored than my H, so I'm guessing they're from an F(?). The
covers are still nice. The bases are also good; with some of the fuzzy
flocking intact.

I've expensively pieced the unit together over several years, intending to
do another 60-62 car. Now I've foolishly obtained several years/wives
worth of pre-console projects, so hopefully a 300 Club member could use it
at my cost, with or without the extras. Please give me a shout for
details if you need this pricey piece.
Thanks!
Mike Vath
