Jim,
Has anyone expressed any interest in these cars? Surely a 4-speed coupe would be worth saving, especially if it is a 300L.

I have been advertising a 300L parts car on the club web site that has the body parts to bring this one back. I hoped to sell it complete but have enough interest in small parts that I would go ahead and part it out if someone wants the front clip and floors, or if someone wants to buy this car as is and get what they need to build the 4-speed car, I'll put them in touch with the members wanting other parts.

My car needs windshield, top, and rear glass and drive line, so maybe the donor car top and glass could save it too. I can E-mail pictures if anybody is interested.

the engine has a cracked block-donor car. It was for sale Sunday night
for $1575.

I plan on getting new Coker tires shortly for my "G".
I currently have wire wheels but would like to go back
to the original rims. My problem: The rims are very
badly rusted. Is it better to have them sand blasted
and re-painted or try to find new/newer rims to use?
If the later is the case, does anyone know where I
should get them from?
As always, I appreciate any comments or guidance
anyone can offer.
Thanks
Gary

We had the rims for our"C" blasted and powder coated.  It was expensive but
they're like new.  If "G" rims are as hard to find as "C", you may not have
any choice.

I Believe this was one of the cars Built for a New York city bank, they once
had a series of cars built and featured in an advertising campaign. I seem
to recall it running in the 70's.  I HAVE seen this car Featured in one of
the Adds.

Subject: Lenses by DeSoto George personal report

George and Nancy Terry, 300C owners from San Antonio, TX, were
recently in Australia and while there visited "DeSoto George" who
has an ever increasing inventory of Mopar reproduction lenses, most
suitable to around our era.  With their permission, I am following
their edited notes to me about the visit.

Wayne
*************************

When it came to his office/computer room, it was neat and well
organized.  Same for his work area in one of the other buildings.
He showed us the products he uses in creating his molds, the lens
materials and the color tints.  He is
totally serious about making the best parts possible and uses the
best materials he can buy.  The silicone is imported from the US for
the molds.  If anything went wrong with anything he made, I'm
convinced it would really be an accident.  Told me to email him when
I got home and tell him what I wanted and he'd send them.  Right
now, he's working on the tri-color 300 side medallions.  He'll be
working to get '57 Chrysler tail light lenses soon. We visited with
him for about 2 hours and thoroughly enjoyed the visit.  These
Aussie guys are really serious about their cars.

Saw 60 DeSoto tail light lenses he has, but didn't see any Chrysler
ones.  Am pretty sure he intends to do 60 Chrysler ones.  He did
have some DeSotos around, but no interesting ones from my
standpoint.  I expected him to have a 58 and I guess he did have one
once, but sold it.  He's been in the US many times apparently.

Nancy

Subject: Re: Reproduction windshields new company and LOWER prices

Greetings Group-
I have received a number of emails concerning my posting about the
reproduction windshields coming soon for the 57-9 Hardtops and convertibles,
and the double bubble 60-64 windshields. I have seen a number of their
reproductions and they are as close to original as I have seen. I personally
spoke with the owner when he was at the yard picking up three windshields to
use for molds, two Mopar and one Ford, told him how disappointed I am with
the reproduction windshield in my 64 sport 300, how poor the tint band is
and how the corners have distortion and lighter(thinner) glass that doesn't
seal well in the weather-strip, etc. etc. He is a car person and said he
knows exactly what I was talking about, assured me that he will get them
done right or not at all. He referred me to one he dropped of for us and we
looked it over and other than the "brand mark" differing, setting side by
side with a (cracked) original we had out, it appeared identical. Mind you I
didn't get out a micrometer, but setting it end to end with the original I
would say it is the same.
The repros will be solex/shaded(don't know the "w" number for the
windshield, don't have a windshield  book at home) and if enough demand he
can get the solex or clear done as well. They will meet US specs, and when I
asked price I was told in the $600 range, possibly less. We will distribute
them if the demand is such to justify the expense of buying the numbers
needed to do so plus the proper shipping crates/boxes needed to get them to
the customer intact. Shipping glass long distance is one of our major
"problem children" as it seems NO MATTER HOW WE PACK THEM< the freight
company lumpers seem  to break quite a number of them, it seems the farther
east they get, the worse the breakage......Neil has yet to decide if he
wants to distribute them or just do referrals. I posted this as a way to let
everyone in the club know about them. As I learn more and/or talk with him
again I will advise the club server.

Subject: Re: Fw: Desoto George In Australia

This is perfect timing to tell the club members that George has a very hard
and expensive time trying to cash or deposit checks from other countries
than Australia.  We cashed one U.S check for him and brought it home and
deposited it.  So although his prices are in US dollars, if we want to treat
him right, we should try to obtain a money order, etc. in Australian dollars
that would be equivalent in value to the US dollar price.  I'm assuming we
wouldn't be comfortable sending cash in the mail unless it wasn't a large
amount.
One other important item.  In his email address, be sure to add .au after
the com or he won't get it.
