Place a thin piece of paper between one set , while you adjust the other one. I like to adjust points while turning the engine over with the starter, with the spark plugs removed, it will spin fast enough to get an accurate dwell reading that way. The vacuum line should be disconnected with the idle set around 650 rpms. The marks on the scale should be about 2 degrees each, you may have to "play around" with the timing setting to get the best results with today's fuel. Valve lash should be set with each cylinder at top dead center on the firing stroke. It was a six passenger and we found a third seat to convert it to a nine passenger. (We needed the room for our friends.) It has a 413 with a single 4bbl. They built 732 of the 6 passenger and 735 of the nine passenger or something like that. I only know of four...ours, John Hertog's, guy in Germany and one I saw under a tarp in a driveway near our house in CA. They are rare and parts can be challenging. You are right. Most wagons were considered below 4 doors by collectors. I am sure most were junked or used for parts. I certainly don't see many. Now, it is the car that attracts the most attention, bar none. I drive it daily and people stop me to comment literally everywhere I go. It gets more looks than my 300 or our '55 Cadillac Eldo convert. It is simply the Good Humor mobile. Car people love it. Non-car people love it. The Police love it and let me go...because after it does have a 413 under the hood...and only weighs 300lbs more than my 300. Moms love the fact I have three boys in a row in three car seats...try that in a modern car. Buy the car. It is wonderful to drive a wagon. And handy too...I use it to carry all sorts of things. My bet is you won't see another. I would love to find a wagon like this! First Dodge with the rear facing rear seat, D-500 option, Forward Look car, fins, torsion bars, etc.etc......"All of the 57 Dodges with three seats featured a rear facing third seat called a "Spectator" seat." (from page 184 The Dodge Story, Thomas McPherson, copyright 1975) 34,2110 four door station wagons built. On page 218 of standard catalog of Chrysler, 1914-2000, second edition, list that 500 Dodge D-500 models were scheduled. Apprx. 101 cars were fitted with the D-501 engine option as well. Is the car a single or dual 4bbl.? Both were 325 cid, one 4bbl was the D-500, dual 4's was the Super D-500. D-501 was a 354 w/dual 4's. How rare today? I'd say very, as most wagons were not saved or at best used to fix sweptside pick-ups, converts, hardtops, etc, so few were saved just because they were wagons. Until about 5-10 years ago, few cared, now wagons are becoming very popular. Value? If you believe Old Car Price Guide, everything is valuable, from my experience in my area of the U.S. it is 35-60% high, depending on the car. OCPG lists the 57 9 pass. wagon at in condition 5 at $1944.00 plus 30% for D-500 option, About $2525.00. IssueFeb.2004,volume 27, No.1. Consider the difficulty in finding station wagon specific parts, labor, shipping etc. and into that how bad do you want it and your financial resources. I find it hard at times to think with my head and bank account in mind instead of my heart..... Go for it if you can get it reasonable! Quite a rare piece of Mopar history. Keep me posted, I am really interested in how you come out, if you get it etc. Joe Pierce 300J(parts)Kx3+M+the "one of none"64 300 9pass.wagon(in progress) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jay R" <robodoc57@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, December 25, 2003 10:42 PM Subject: [Chrysler300] 57 Wagon D500 9 pass > Merry Christmass to all, > I am considering the purchase of a 1957 Dodge Wagon D 500 Spectator > Edition. I am looking for one of the 354 hemi truck and 300B-300D performance exhaust manifolds with the 4-bolt flange that has a flattened "ram's horn" area for clearance in the '57-58 cars to the steering box and right front suspension. I have an NOS full ram's horn type to trade. This is quite hard to describe the difference between the full and flattened ram's horn styles and they ALL are cast with the same casting number so that is of no help. If you would like a photo showing the two styles for comparison and verification, email me and ask. wgraefen@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Wayne [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ To send a message to this group, send an email to: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Yahoo!
