I had a '33 Plymouth engine once where one of the holes was slightly oblong. I had to measure the hole and cut the plug to size and then position it precisely. I think I took about 10 diametric measurements to lay out the plug. Morale of the story is to measure it in several directions to make sure it is indeed one diameter. 30 years later it is still in but it made me nervous to discover the malady.
