Like with the front brakes, there will be not a slot, but a 7/16" hex bolt.
Grab a ratchet, or wrench, and tighten or loosen away while spinning the
tire!  (Note: The front backing plates have a hex bolt for each of the two
shoes, per wheel, where the rear backing plates only have one hex bolt to
adjust both shoes at once per wheel)
