Hi Owen, I just finished rebuilding my Hemi. I removed the factory valve ,but I replaced it with a after market one that keeps the oil from running back Hotheads and PAW both carry the new valve. If you need there address let me know Gary Barker Owen & Jo Grigg wrote: > Hi all > The guy doing my 392 engine machine work, has recommended that when I assemble the motor, to leave out the oil pressure relief valve under the rear main bearing cap. His reasoning behind this is that these valves allow unfiltered oil to pass through the engine. All his race motors, which is his main line of work, do not run this valve. But for my application, a street engine, I'm not convinced. If I don't run the valve, I gather all the oil will run back to the pan. So on start up after sitting for a while, it will rattle it's nut off until oil pressure is built back up. Am I right or wrong here? I've always been under the impression that most engine wear occurs on start up..... so leaving out this valve would make that even worse? > Can someone set me straight on this?
