Hi Bill '59 Crown (and list) I've noticed a curious thing on at least 3 or 4 Torqueflite gasket overhaul kits (this remark applies on overhauled trans.): The gasket between trans. housing and trans. extension has not the hole for the breather and the inside of trans has no connection with exterior !! First i thought that it was only on the last kits i bought from fatsco but i've verified this omission on other kits i bought 5 years ago at another supplier... As the trans couldn't "breath" you'll find the problem i have since i rebuilt it: when you start the car after a while (3 or 4 days) the oil spits from oil filler tube (preferably on hot exhaust ..), especially if you run at hot iddle. This occurs rather if you have some "converter drainback": too much oil in pan , units turns at high speed and shakes oil so inside air is compressed, pressure builds and blows out oil by the only way, the filler tube .. The remedy is simple: cut a hole in the gasket !! But you need to remove driveshaft / hand brake drum and assoc. parts / trans. mount (so you must support rear of trans.) / extension housing. 2 or 3 hours of labor for a hole !! But i'll do it (because also i 've to remove driveshaft for exchange of propeller shaft center bearing, you know why..) Bill, drill the gasket seems very difficult to do, you must remove the breather cover (removing is a thing but installing again is another..) and if you drill you'll send foreign material in oil.
