I was given an explanation of the brass tag numbering system by a collector car carburetor expert who said that every tag number represents "a compilation of parts" thus from a Corvette to a Chrysler 300 if even as little as one part is changed, it is a new group of parts and thus receives a new Carter number. That is why there are no many Carter carburetor brass tag numbers. The vast majority of parts in the carburetor may interchange but it only takes one change to change the tag.
