Re: [Chrysler300] The score so far:Hubs 3, Frank 0

I think a woman must have decided that 300s would have taper axles, either that or someone trying to tell us it is time to get a life beyond cars !?

At a recent swap meet, a friend said there was an obvious shortage of "unobtainium" - that is obviously that 'something special' we sometimes need to remove rear hubs off these taper axles !

First time I tried to remove mine on my first 300C - heat and leaving the puller on, with spray on lubricant, worked finally.

Few thousand miles and 15 years later, one comes free after loosen nut turn and half, quick flog round the block with plenty of swerving left and right (this scaring few neighbours in their house front yards).
The other - drove round for weeks, burnouts, everything, and still stuck, this despite it put back with lubricant !!!! Obviously needs some "unobtainium" ?

So over easter, still being stupid, I decided to replace bush in front of leaf spring on my '57 TBird - fun fun fun, getting the locating bolt out of the chassis which it passes thru as part of holding spring in car - bet 300s have this same clever idea ?!

Hope you all had a happy easter, you yanks didn't really crush/destroy saddams collector/50s cars as was reported in our press did you, most only 3000 miles!??

The Hubs rebuked my efforts to come off their tapers. I modified the MOAP
(Mother Of All Pullers) to use the hydraulic cylinder from my engine hoist.
That way I would be using a direct linear pull instead of defeating myself
with a screw that gets harder to turn. The cylinder is rated 8 tons. It
may take 8.001 tons, because they are still on. I am going to re-think
this whole exercise for a while.

In the meantime, I just received my repro tail light lenses from George in
Australia. They are beautiful. If anyone is looking for replacement
lenses, I can highly recommend these.
