Hi club; I watched with interest the discussion centering around letter cars from the 50,s and 60,s in the British Columbia Canada's countryside . Unless you were John D. Rockefeller's kid hiding out in Canada for someone unknown reason. You would be hard pressed to come up with the kind of money that was needed to buy a new 300 . Hence the reason when I was a kid why I bought a used one from the T. Eaton family who qualified at the time with having enough money ( about 800,000,000.00 ) Bear in mind you boys from Canada that to get a US car you had in addition to the extra cost, pay an import duty , it varied during those days but upwards of 22% if you wanted to bring a new ( you couldn't import used ) car across the border . A Chevy Bel Air, which seems to be the car that everyone in this country for some unknown reason does cart wheels for , cost $ 1947.00 , Your were over 6 grand to get a letter car , plus the duties. We all knew at the time they were hot, real hot and US cars tended to have a far better cosmetic look then ours but you got what you could afford . I remember chasing a guy with an (F) Michigan plate about 50 miles so I could ask him at the time if he might let me look inside his car . Now you can move the iron north of the 49th with ease , problem is all the good stuff is south of the 49th. All I found at the end of February was an Auction and Car Show at the Abbotsford Tradex center (about an hours drive outside of downtown Vancouver). http://www.fvtradex.com or http://www.abbotsfordcollectorcarshow.com will give you some idea of what to expect. The availability of rare Chryslers is very limited in Canada it seems and most of the Hemi cars, Ram cars, etc. we see at shows here have come from the U.S. in recent years. There are lots of nice Antiques, Vintage, and Hot Rods in B.C. but many of them are seldom seen at shows in Vancouver. Unfortunately, unless you happen to know someone here with a letter car you will likely never see one, much less find one in a barn. I've only ever layed eyes on two my entire life. As for wreckers, there really isn't much in the area either. The only real 'Mopar only' wrecker is mostly full of rusty B, E and A bodies along with a few 4 door C bodies (usually from the 70's). Not exactly Chrysler paradise though the sites are worth the trip alone, especially if the weather is nice. I'll see if I can find any more events or think of anything car related that might interest you. There are at least three members here, myself included, maybe we could get together?
