I buy often on Ebay and have enjoyed the experience and the hunt, saved a lot of money on small items(just bought a Pro Drill Doctor for 115.00 that would have cost me 150 plus tax locally). In the Harley Davidson catalog for 2003 there was a limited edition tank set(this is a replacement front and rear fender and fuel tank) for my 03 Heritage Softail. It was painted in a superb color combination, only 200 of them to be made up. I did not buy then as was 2,400 dollars. When I decided to buy, no longer available. I kicked myself often over missing out. However I did keep and eye on Ebay for it, and 3 weeks ago, lo and behold there it was for sale by an HD dealer in Georgia who had bought it for inventory in 2003 and had not ever sold it. I bid and won the bid at 1,400 dollars. It arrived a couple of days ago and is perfect. The point is that I think that Ebay in spite of some issues performs a great service for all of us and our hobbies. I also have found the 3 different colors of the Maisto 300 B(1/18 scale and a beautiful job) thru Ebay. Never could find a red one locally. Also have purchased some other 300 memorabilia that I would not have ever seen locally. Never had a problem with a single purchase. There are surely some bad apples, but if you pay attention to feedback scores this should lessen your chance of a problem, and always pay with Paypal(under 500 dollars) or your credit card. This offers some protection from the scammers. Yes there's a fee involved, for the sellers. A fee to list, they provide the venue. And a commission when it's sold, they provided the buyer. If you're buying, there's no cost. PayPal charges a fee, they also provide a service. If you're paying, again, no fee. I don't know how "the bidding is rigged", there may be shills from time to time, but it's not often. And eBay will bar those they catch. So, it's not widespread. Overall, it's fun and I get many things I wouldn't be able to find locally. I also have fun weekends at auctions and buy to sell on eBay. Everything from knickknacks to cars. I've sold hundreds of items and bought as many with seldom a problem. I have a 204 positive feedback, with no negatives. And about as many didn't leave any feedback as did. So what I sell is honest and I pay promptly. The only times I felt like I overpaid was when I got tooo enthused and didn't pay enough attention. The descriptions or pictures usually showed the defect I missed. My son has sold several cars, he just shipped a 'Cuda to Denmark. Also sold that guy lots of stuff that was in the pictures on the listing. He's sold lots of Mopar parts, for fair prices. He's bought several cars and had no problems. I love the dealing and anyone who avoids it is missing out. I know Nancy, she's a computer whizz, so why they don't sell parts on ebay is a mystery to me. Ads in the mags or papers, flea markets, running a store or shop, or eBay, you may have to deal with jerks. It's part of the game. And there's usually a fee involved.
