[Chrysler300] Turn Signal Switch

Hello Everyone,  

Can someone please explain the operation of the Automatic Cancel Turn Switch.  The switch on my "G" only works in a manual mode, that is, I have to remember to turn it to the (center) off position after completing a turn; it won't self cancel.  Its hard for me to understand how the switch can cancel electrically without a physical connection to the steering wheel like the later model cars.  Thanks.
