Seat belts were first offered in all Mopars in mid-1955 always as a dealer installed option until the mandatory federal seat belt law came into effect many years later at which time the factorys all had to install them. I have the '55 introductory announcement about them. The first ones had a cable running between them on the underside of the floor board for additional pull-through resistance. Large flat washers have always been deemed adequate with a perfectly solid as-new floor board but once the floor begins rusting, additional reinforcement like angle iron or channel is recommended.
