On 4/26/05 Ron Walters asked What would happen if he put type F atf in a Torqueflight from the late 50eys.He did not say what he was running ,Assume type A.? I don't no what would happen if he just added some.I would change out all the fluid.First run some Liquid wrench (about 1/2 pint) for about 100 miles. You want to get the varnish out of the valve body, other things would probably work but I have not used them.Next drain it ,including the converter ,over night would be best. Adjust the rear band when you have the pan off.and clean or replace the filter.install pan and adjust front band. Recharge with F .Make sure the T/P valve is on the money and idle is set to speck.Your shifts will be more positive tyranny will run much cooler (less slippage in the clutches and bands)It might be a little jerky going into reverse and you might have to slow down the idle a tad. After some running, 1000 miles? go back and check the front band.Good luck.
