Manufacturers post volumes of product information on the internet. Valvoline
site has product information on their power steering fluid. We use it and it
is marketed as Pyroil Power Steering Fluid.

We use power steering fluid for all units that do not specifically state to
use only transmission fluid and for all the units I have seen that factory
recommendation has always been limited to Dexron specifically. Honda and
some others require a special fluid and not Dexron. Class 8 truck steering
systems require Dexron.

Note in the fluid marketers data that power steering fluid is intended for
power steering only (and specifically not automatic transmissions). The
literature I have seen for more than one power steering fluid product states
that the stuff will help prevent leaks. This normally means that the stuff
has ethylene glycol in it's chemistry. The recommendation we got from Steer
and Gear was steering fluid as mentioned but I do not know if we ever had a
brand recommendation.

Note that data for transmission fluid makes no mention of suitability for
power steering. We do know that older Chryslers had Type A fluid from the
factory which has developed, evolved into the Dexron spec today.

Power steering fluid or Dexron in the old units I think will work quite
well. Trying the newer Chrysler spec ATF+3 or ATF+4 might not cause any
problems in the old units but why risk the chances and what would be the
purpose?
