[Chrysler300] Safety Rim Wheels

"Safety rim wheels" as a safety feature were not unique to Chrysler and keep in mind there were multiple wheel manufacturers supplying the auto industry. For example, Hudson adopted "safety rim wheels" in 1954. It is my understanding that they were a development within the wheel industry that was adopted at various times in different manors over the decades. At first it was as small steel bumps on the internal felloe of the wheel to help hold the tire in place in case of sudden air loss. By the mid '50s this became the continuous steel rib around the felloe. I believe every US auto manufacturer had safety wheels from 1955 forward.
