[Chrysler300] Re: Replacement Wheels for 14" 300s

Hi to all,

I have bad news regarding the wheel project. As you know the 15²x7² wheels
were not feasible since Stockton could not make vents in the wheels.

The 14²x7² wheels are not feasible to make for the following reasons:

1. The center hole in the face stamping was larger than our OEM wheels.
There was a work around for this by having hub rings machined out of
Stainless Steel. Hub rings are also readily available made from Composite
Polycarbonate.
2. Our hubcaps (1960 at least) are retained with a set of 4 NUBS that the
cleats grab onto. That was their primary purpose, not so much to keep the
hubcap from spinning. These nubs are very small and I never noticed them on
my own wheels. Regular hubcaps are retained by sharp points.
3. It would require a run of at least a thousand wheels and probably require
that they be made overseas to be economically feasible. And then they would
probably be very expensive.

Special thanks go out to Jim McMullan who went out of his way to go over to
Stockton Wheel during the fitment procedures. He helped identify the
problems. (See his message below)
Special thanks to Henry Hopkins who was ready, willing and able to bring his
³F² over to Stockton Wheel for the second stage of fitment that
unfortunately will never come.
Thank you to all of you who contributed in this long continuous thread over
this wonderful 300 e-mail server.

I don¹t like to fail, but we came close. Short by only 4 NUBS!

Kudos go out to Frank Mauro for his efforts. Stockton Wheel has been around
a long time and have helped many car clubs and car enthusiasts meet their
needs.
