Hi Bruce,

sure - there is a relationship between keyway and timing mark on outer ring 
of balancer; however, given the small diameter & circumference of the crank, 
the fact that one cannot see the keyway with crank bolt installed, etc.  , I 
believe that the easiest / most reliable way to check the accuracy of the 
balancer is to pull #1 plug, and use a piston stop indicator to put the 
engine at true TDC .

My piston stop indicator is real high-tech:  a hollowed-out spark plug with 
a bolt threaded into it ! The end of the bolt is rounded off.  Period, 
that's it and all you will need.
