[Chrysler300] '65 300 starting problems

Ryan: I remember when I was younger, my dad was a Chrysler mechanic and had a similar problem with a '65 New Yorker. Turned out to be a blocked exhaust pipe. I don't know if you have dual or single exhaust but this was a blockage in the pipe that connected to the crossover just after the "Y". For some reason, a "bubble" had formed in the area and was blocking off the flow of the exhaust to the point that the engine would run at idle for a short period of time and then die. If you let it sit for a while and the pressure bled off, then you could start it again. He suspected an exhaust system blockage so he raised it up on the lift and took off everything beyond the crossover. When he did that, the car ran perfectly, (although very loud). If you have a good exhaust system with no leaks, you could have a blockage anywhere in the system that could cause this to occur and with no leaks to relieve the pressure, it could very well give you the symptoms you are experiencing. I remember the old trick of putting a potato in the end of someone's tailpipe to keep the car from running. Same principle.

Good luck!
