RE: [Chrysler300] YOM License Plates

If you are here in California the 1962 plates were yellow with black
letters/numbers.
In 1963 plates were black with yellow numbers/letters.

Hi Steve, Do you know which plate would have been issued for my 1962 300H?
Was it the yellow plate with black numbers or the black plate with yellow
numbers? My understanding is that the yellow plates were used in
1962 and then replaced with the black plates in 1963. Hope you can clear
this up. Thanks, Doug Warrener

In California, you can't use a period correct, non-original issue license
plate on a car unless it was produced in 1962 or earlier, unless they
changed the law recently. If your post-1962 car falls off record (sometimes
in about 7 years of non-registration, but seem to be keeping them longer
lately), you can't register the car even with its original plates unless you
have some proof that the plate was originally on that car, e.g., an old
registration form or title showing that plate number.
If you are lucky enough to have that proof, then you have to go through
special processing unit of DMV to get it re-associated with your car, and
often this takes 6 months or more. Ask me how I know.
