Hi All, I noticed that the 1963 Service Manual indicates compression should be measured with a warm engine, wide open throttle and 100 RPM. I can assume that a normal battery will meet 100RPM? How warm should the engine be? Running 3-5 minutes? Taking out spark plugs from a hot engine is not my favorite activity. Then you need to attach the threaded hose to the cylinder. My hands have touched those manifolds before. Ouch! Can I let the engine cool down somewhat, then remove the plugs? Does not having the throttle wide open really vary the compression ? Spec is 130-165 psi with no more than 25 psi variation between cylinders. At what point do you start to worry about these 43 year old engines? 125 psi? 120? 115? Also, I assume the gasoline used these days is a factor? 300ly, Mark Lindahl '63 300 Conv.
