Wheel data for 1955 Chryslers from the 1955 service manual: Windsor, New Yorker, 300: 15 X 5.5, 4 ½ bolt circle, 5-1/2X20; 7.60?s on the Windsor, 8.00?s on the NY & 300 Imperial: 15X6, 5 ½ bolt circle, 9/16 X 18; 8.20?s Crown Imperial: 15X6 ½, 5 ½ bolt circle, 9/16 X 18; 8.90?s All use lug bolts with LH or RH threads. Observations on the wheels from my C-300: There are four cooling slots @ 3.5? each at the outer edge of the center disk There are two raised nubs for anti rotation-one on each side of the valve stem hole only These fit into depressions in the locking tabs on the wheel covers and the wheel covers are the same as for Imperials, but with different plastic centers. Between each pair of lug bolt holes is a smaller hole with a square extension and a second tiny hole. The big hole is to receive the alignment pin on the brake drum that assists in mounting the rim and starting the lug bolts into the threaded holes in the brake drum. Reasons for the square extension to the alignment holes and for the tiny holes near each alignment hole are unclear to me. Measurement from the edge of the inside rim to the inside face of the center disc is 3 7/8? Opinion: Seems like Chrysler could have easily and cheaply put the Imperial or Crown Imperial wheels and tires on the 300?s. The 8.00?s seem a little wimpy in appearance, but maybe Goodyear was unwilling to make the Blue Streak tires in anything over the 8.00. Question: Anyone seen 8.00 X 15 bias-ply tires with 3? WSW in anything other than Coker?s or Lucas?s General Dual 90?s?
