Hi Matt, If your battery is really run down, the amp gauge will do some "bouncing" until the alternator has recharged the battery. Best way to isolate whether this is the problem, or not, is to put a fresh, fully charged battery in the car and see how the gauge behaves. A bad amp gauge will also tend to "bounce" or flutter too much - I happen to know this as I just installed one of them on the car I am working on. Took it out and found that the "arm" that hold the needle pivot got bent, and was not making enough tension on the shaft. But if all worked well before and you did not remove or play with your amp gauge, then the gauge is more than likely not the problem. Out of the 4 gauges, the amp gauge is the most durable of all.
