I beg to differ with your statement about not being able to open the hood with out the void in the grill. My "C" convert. is all original, one family owned car that I am the second owner of and I have owned since 1968 there is no void in my grill and I have no problem opening the hood, well at least releasing the catch the hood it self seams to get heaver every year. The grill has the missing piece as you describe, but I have no way of knowing if the grill is original to the car. I also have a spare grill that I'll look at later today. I've always thought that this was "factory correct" and the question I would pose if there is a fixed upright in that position how does one release the hood? Once again it just shows how much we really don't know about the mark.
