Mike, I contacted an Optima representative this morning and the scoop on the gel/dry batteries is that they do not explode when cooked by design. The venting system is a different design and nature from wet cell batteries. The hybrid vehicle batteries are of this design for safety reasons of this nature. They run at 42 volts and the batteries are designerd to take much higher surges should an electrical malfunction occur and try to cook them and explode. It doesen't happen. The 12 volt batteries have been zapped with greater than 18 volts repeatedly in the hot rod community and they have gained a reputation for not exploding or throwing acid vapor over panels, engines, people wherever these are hidden in custom made vehicles such as hot rods. I hope this further lends understanding to this concern of wet cell vs. gel/dry cell batteries. 300'ly, ROB KERN [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] To send a message to this group, send an email to: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm Yahoo!
