Vic: Thanks for the lead, but Chrysler 300 blocks are stamped with serial numbers 3NE55xxxx where xxxx is probably 1000 to 3000, or so. Without the leading 3, it is a New Yorker or Imperial block, especially with the high serial number 9720. The engine may have come out of a 300, but it was not what was in it when it left the factory. As I understand it, there is little, if any, difference between a 300 block and a NY/Imp block--there was a selection process after boring to assure that 300 blocks had no porosity in the cylinder bores. Porous castings were sleeved and installed in NY & Imp.
