Tony: Please tell us what you know about different flexing of rims made for radial tires vs. made for bias ply tires. Is this accomplished with thicker and/or stronger steel? This may shed some light on the tales of possible wheel failures when mounting radials on old rims. This wheel project has been going on for so long, I can't recall where we came out on getting Stockton Wheel interested in 1955 replacement rims. I do have five apparently original 15" X 5.5" C300 rims and only live about 1/2 hour from Stockton. Would it be productive to take the rims over there and let them have a look? The 1956 rims might be different as the '55's were for drums with the alignment pin and wheel studs, vs '56 with studs mounted in the drum and using lug nuts--'56's probably don't have the aligning pin and if so may not have or need the extra smaller holes between the lug/stud holes. The majority has spoken. The 6.5 inch wide 14 inch replacement wheel should have 2 anti-rotational bumps on either side of the valve stem (About 3 to 3 1/4 inches depending if you measure straight across or around the circumference). 1960 300-F wheels should have 4 bumps to retain regular 1960 Chrysler clawless hubcaps (1960 300-F hubcaps have claws). If you do not care to have this originality feature on your 300-F, then the 2 bump wheels would do for any 14 inch based Chrysler 300 between 1957 thru 1966. Stockton Wheel is working on a prototype 2 bump wheel that also will match up to 300-K hubcaps which have 2 special receptor tabs built into them. The 4 bump 1960 wheels are on order and hopefully being shipped to 300-F owners currently. We are working to provide wheels for a 1957 300-C and a 1964 300-K as test mules for representative years other than 1960. These wheels are made strong enough to mount radial tires on them and do not flex like the original wheels that were made for bias ply tires. Ari has reported the following compatibility for the 300-F wheel from Hollander's 32nd edition interchangeable book: 14x6,5 5-4 1/2 next wheels are similar: 1957 NYker/300, Chrys 58-66, DeSoto 57-61 Sub. S26, Dodge 64-65 Pass., Plym.64. So there are more uses for the wheels than just Chrysler 300s. Right now, concentrating on Chryslers, I have compiled a list of 14x 6.5 inch wheels compatibility based upon the "Standard Catalog of American Cars 1946-1975": Am I correct? 4 Bump Wheels 1960 Chryslers- All 2 Bump Wheels 1957 Chryslers- All 1958 Chryslers- All 1959 Chryslers- All 1961 Chryslers- All except 15 Inch 300-G 1962 Chryslers- All except 15 Inch 300-H 1963 Chryslers- All except 15 Inch 300-J 1964 Chryslers- All 1965 Chryslers- All 1966 Chryslers- All except 15 Inch disc brake option Respectfully submitted Tony Rinaldi Special thanks to Paul Holmgren for sharing his expertise on 2 bump 1957 documentation!
