My attempts to quiet speedometers on my own have seen only short lived
success. So, my best solution has been to put the job in the hands of a tech
that has the experience and equipment to work with an antique unit to
include cleaning, detailing and calibration.

And that would be Jeff Carter, who rebuilt my demolished speedometer after I
blew it up reunning it while it was making that shrieking noise.
