If an old shaft is not available, where should you measure from to get the correct length for the new shaft? Wheels on the ground, rear face of trans output flange to centre of where the rear UJ sits in the pinion yoke? How accurate does this measurement need to be with the typical movement front to rear in the UJ's? I imagine if it's wrong it's going to hammer the rear output bearing in the trans? I have seen wrong field measurements ruin a job when, for instance, the wheels were not on the ground properly and the driveshaft not in a normal operating plane. If new shaft is made from new parts and to match old shaft for fit by driveline shop, the responsibility for fit should fall directly on the driveline shop.
