Thanks all for info on p/s hose for Hurst, and also on rewiring the dashboard on a '69 300. Special thanks to Steve Albu who really knows these cars and gave me excellent advice! Dropping the steering column and then dropping the dashboard forward was the only way to go. The '69 300 ragtop is now rewired and done and ready to go back to its red-faced (and soon to be a bit poorer, one he gets his bill) owner. So this is what happens when one attempts to jump-start the dead battery of one's '69 Chrysler 300 and - stupidly - reverses the terminals on the high-po jumpbox being used: 1/ the dashboard wiring harness fries and melts completely under the dash, all the way to the bulkhead connector on firewall. 1a/ For some reason, the engine compartment wiring harness is not affected. 2/ the secondary dashboard wiring harness, that goes from main harness to ammeter and cluster idiot lights, also fries to a crisp. 3/ the wiper motor loses its mind and needs to be replaced 4/ the voltage regulator goes to full-field and needs to be replaced 5/ the temperature sender gets blown out (both parts of it - the hot and the cold circuit) 6/ the oil pressure sender gets blown out Labor time: about 11 hours, plus parts. Not a fun job. But made a lot easier thanks to Murray Park who sent us a beautiful used harness. Only difference between NewYorker harness and 300 harness is the absence of the headlight door motor wiring, and that can relatively easily be removed from old harness and added to NewYorker harness. This info should also apply to 1970 300 Hurst. But the '69 wiring harness is one year only (ignition switch still on dashboard) .
