[Chrysler300] Re: 57 Mopar and 'non mopar?' 1962 Seatbelts

Manual steering was STANDARD on all 300Cs. Power steering on any 300C was optional. While the manual trans Cs had to be manual steering, it is not true that all 390HP cars had manual steering. Two did not. My Road America Kiekhaefer 300C is one of those.

Count me among those who really does not care what the original composition was on a safety item I want to employ while driving today whether that is brake shoes or seat belt webbing. Give me webbing that meets the standards of any race organization specifying a maximum age and a sewn on date to prove it.

My understanding of the correct installation of the early cable type seat belt packages has always been that the cables are underneath the floor, not in the rear footwells.

Christopher, all correspondence I had with the original owner of your Gauguin C indicates it was never a special order car. But in fact was a production C hardtop that happened to be one of a number of manual steering cars. It was a standard production order car. The buyer decided to take a run at Daytona, which was open to public entry. He damaged the engine there, spoke with Briggs Cunningham who was in attendance and contracted a rebuild of the motor. The car was later drag raced extensively in the north central US.
